June 3rd, my G-ma passed away after an unexpected heart attack and stroke.
It was a shock, and her passing left a big whole in our family where she is truly missed. She was the glue that held all of the aunts, uncles, and cousins together. In her lifetime she provided all of us with such joy that we will surely take her words, laughs, and memories with us throughout the rest of our own lives. Among them, TV trash, Skip Bo, and bells under the Christmas tree are some of my favorites from the time we shared in her home.
She was loved by everyone, but especially by the two men she got to call 'husband'. Papa Gerald was a saint for her in the short 17 months they had together, and G-pa Kenneth, who she married at 16 and celebrated over 50 yrs together.
After days in ICU, my dad told her that it was okay for her to go - "Dad's waiting for you Mom," he said. The day she died, Brad and I saw a rainbow over Searcy from one side to the other, and the sun breaking thru the clouds to shine on the hospital, and we knew her heavenly Father was ready for her. We got to her room, and she had passed 5 minutes before. Praise God for his presence and comfort on this earth!
My kids were so sweet and innocent in their understanding of this as Macy said, "Shhhh, G-ma sleeping...., and Canaan had a lot of questions about his soul. I pray that they enjoy life like she did, and that she's there, waiting to welcome them to the home we'll share again someday.
